Coinstar - Vending Machine Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Went to Walmart in PA. Used the coinstar it took my money fine but would not print a receipt. Manager said I had to call coinstar. Called the number and waited 45 minutes for someone to answer phone when they did they hung up. Called back still could not get a rep. Called the following morning after 38 minutes a rep answered told me to go back to Walmart and have them do it manually. So I did waited over an hour and the manager was apologetic but could not enter the barcode they gave us. Called them from Walmart and was on hold again for over 45 min waiting for a rep to answer the phone. What a joke!! Poor customer service. Now have to wait 7-10 days for the money if they send it!! Calling BBB tomorrow . They are a rip off!!

Ink fades and makes the gift card unusable

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I used the coinstar machine to get a Lowe's certificate, The ink on the receipt faded after about a month and when I went to use it, they could not read the bar code at Lowe's. I called coinstar and because I could read the date and amount the rep gave me the bar code #.

I took it back to Lowe's and despite inputting the code in 3 times, it would not take. Now I can't read any info on the receipt. So I no longer have the date or exact amount. What a rip.

I will never use them and tell everyone I know not to use them.

I tried to call them and was on hold for an hour. They must have lots of people calling to complain

I received a Lowe's Gift Card from Coinstar in October. Yes, it faded.

I did not notice that the receipt clearly states "Certificate May Fad Record Code" I cashed in some more coins and made a copy of the receipt with my printer when I got home. For many people, it might be best to receive a cash voucher and use it the same day you get it. I use the Coinstar at my supermarket. I can use the voucher toward groceries (less the Coinstar fee of 9%) For my faded receipt for $140, I could not even see traces of the Gift Card # or PIN #.

I used a hair dryer on the back of the thermal paper. The front turned an ashy black and the print reappeared in light grey.

I hav the same problem

Same thing happened to us. It faded in 2 weeks and was unusable!!! This is obviously a design by Coinstar to rip off consumers!

Elizabeth Pvu

Coinstar has already been in trouble about the fading ink but they obviously do not care. They miscount money also and customers are told to wait weeks for the coinboxes to be counted only to be told there was no shortage given. I would never use a Cointstar machine after reading many complaints like yours and others who were shortchanged with no recourse and no refund.

Subtlety defrauds users

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I was told there would be a 10% fee for converting my jar to cash, and no fee if I went with a giftcard. I chose an iTunes giftcard. After putting in all of my change, it informed me that they were having an issue with their giftcard service and would convert it to cash with a 10% convenience fee I did not agree to. Was I only defrauded out of $3? Yes, but imagine all the other users they rip off who don't feel like going to bat. It's why people who steal debit card numbers only remove a small amount of money at a time from the account, or why the concept of 'salami slicing' exists.

Coinstar stole $100 gift card

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I went to my local Ulta Foods to use the "convenient" Coinstar Giftcard exchange to get cash for a $100 Darden (Olive Garden, Red Lobster) gift card that I couldn't use. I went through the process and agreed to take $60 for the $100 card.

Coinstar evidently wasn't satisfied with a $40 profit, the machine ate the gift card after I put it in the appropriate slot and showed an error message. After spending 10+ minutes on hold, I was told by coinstar customer service that they would send a tech out in the next 3 days to retrieve the card and asked for my contact information. They called me a day later that the tech couldn't retrieve the card and that there was nothing more they could do. Bottom line, I'm out $100.

Avoid coinstar like the plague if you want to get any money at all for your gift card. They lure you in by saying you will get immediate cash but then they take everything.

Well they are incredibly greedy, 11%!! Really??

Just to get paper instead of coinage??

Seems very excessive, I might be tempted to use coinstar if it was 3% but it's definitely not worth anything near 11% to get bills for coinage. I'm baffled anyone would pay such an exorbitant fee even if you have the money just on principle alone.

Coinstar - Vending Machine Review

I turned in about $24 and some odd change in coins to coinstar. Instead of taking the fee I got the amazon e certificate. Not long after I used the code on my amazon account, my account was hijacked. I looked at a customer forum to see if there was anything I could do, and aparently im not the only one that coincidentally got hikacked after using coinstar. Luckly I had no money taken, as I only had $2 left and I didnt have a credit card attatched to the account, but this is still unacceptable.

I counted my change before turning it in, I had $122.67, (counted with my eyes &hands) It gave me a receipt for $48 , I called them, they said I have to wait 3weeks for the box to be collected, they will then count by hand to see if there is any over, and if so the will send me a check...IT IS CHRISTMAS EVE, AND THEY STOLE MY KIDS CHRISTMAS....ABSOLUTELY A FRAUD, I WILL NEVER SEE MY MONEY.

Walmart Gift Card Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
They wanted $19 for cashing a $75 walmart gift card and $31 for cashing in a $100. That's outrageous. No thanks Coinstar Exchange. I'll wait 24 hours for Cardpool to send me a check for 92% of the value. Anyone promoting that garbage online has zero intergrity. Coinstar Exchange is garbage.

I got the same message, same scenario. I called and was told it wasn't necessarily me.

But, there has been high instance of fraud in the area. To try back in a couple days. I know that if you are selling b/c you're strapped for cash, this can be terribly inconvenient.

But I did try a few days later and it worked out just fine (at a different location about 10mi away)Also the Coinstar machine gave me more than a couple people I contacted off of Craigslist had offered. Hope my answer helps a bit!

Which exchange did you go to?

Elizabeth Pvu

You can bet the machine miscounted your change on purpose and you were ripped off just like everyone else who uses CoinStar. If you didn't count your change first you will not be aware of how much less change was counted in your favor. Too many complaints to count about this company cannot be wrong !
