Fraudulent Charge/Scam

Hi,

My name is Malaeoletalu Lobendahn and I am writing because we have tried multiple times to get ahold of someone via the customer service number regarding an issue but have had no success. On 6/5/24 my husband Johnathon Gouldman got scammed into sending $3800 in cryptocurrency via Coinme to an individual who was impersonating our local sheriffs department and threatening arrest.

This individual went as far as hacking the exact police department phone number for our local area, which is why my husband was convinced it was legitimate. We want to know what we can do to try and get our money back. We have contacted our local police department to report this crime and apparently it has been ongoing and scammers have been utilizing the Coinme/Coinstar ATMs to do this. We still have the receipt for the transaction and want to know what steps we need to take to address this.

The Coinme ID # is 238****, Machine ID #9155 l, Coinstar Transaction # is 70872,

Unique ID # ST05-BNFB-9W29 and the exact date and time of this transaction is 6/5/2024 at 1:52 pm. You can contact me via email or my cellphone which is 559-999-****.

My husbands phone number is 240-298-****. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Cash receipt

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I went to Walmart in Racine, Wisconsin to exchange my change and get my receipt from Coinstar, which had the Walmart logo on the Coinstar paper. I was told that their machines were not connecting to Coinstar and they wouldn't give me my money, even though it said 'cash in at Walmart'. I have been trying to get my money for 3 days.

Scammed me!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I had saved up for 5 years and I went to go cash it in at a frys store and was charged $70 for my $150 coins. I am only 10 yrs old and this money meant a lot to me because my grandpa gave me money for working in the hot summer.

Now I only have $50. And the whole reason why I went to cash it was to get V bucks and it turns out they were all out.

What a day! Upset customer :(

User's recommendation: Don’t do it banks have change counters that you can use with a lower rate if your bank doesn’t have one most banks charge 3.5% of total amount instead of 12.5% and .50 like coinstar does

Complacent in active fraud and scammers

I contacted coinstar who took my fraud complaint and stated that was all they could do as the fraud may have been done using their machine but Coinme was the company to contact regarding the issue. I contacted them, finally heard back from them days later and was told there was nothing they could do about it. The directed me to file a report with cyber crime and gave me a link, which I did.

Phone scammers scammed my 77yo mother out of her Social Security check for the month. Have the receipt and the # used for the account, everything they need but would they help get the $ back?

*** no. They took the fraud report and that was all. If you or I were complacent in such activities we would be equally as guilty as the scammers and would be charged as such. If I ever get the $1000 back for my mother I will update the reviews and complaints I have submitted everywhere I can.

After their "Fees" the amount would be $960 and we would be happy to get $900 back. Giving them $100 for their shady service.

DO NOT USE Coinstar. They are aware that scammers are using their services to commit fraud and scam elderly and working folks out of enormous amounts of money.

They will take your report when you call but don't do anything for you.

The act of complacency is the act of participation. They are part of the problem.

Coinme account I purchased 520.00 from coinstar at first when my ticket printed it left off codes I needed then I received that my money was in coinme wallet but can not get in the account to verify my bitcoin since my purchase on 4/3/24. Coinme tech have given me the run around and I can not get the 5 digit verification code.

I filled out tickets , sent them proof of purchase and did everything they text me to do and I still can not get in the account. I do not know what else to do other than try and get my money back.

Sincerely,

Resolved: Employee didn't reach out to us regarding our pending transaction.

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with full refund. Emailed the company and received a gift card within 3 days. I am happy with the resolution.

Original review Jan 15, 2024
Took a big chunk of change to a machine in a local supermarket. Everything went well until our last dollar worth of coins.

Unfortunately the machine glitches and we couldn't continue. The manager wasn't on the floor that day, and the other employees couldn't get it working, or didnt have the appropriate keys. We had to wait over the weekend to get the transaction completed. Issue being we did not want cash, we wanted an Amazon gift card so we wouldn't have to pay their % fee.

The manager of the store called us and told us the Coinstar employee who would come and fix the machine would reach out to us, but they never did. They just assumed we wanted to take out all those coins in cash. We didn't, we wanted a gift card to avoid their fees, but they didn't reach out to us until all was said and done with a receipt for a cash exchange. It was alot of coins, and due to their fees, we're out nearly $100.

Understandably, the manager of the market can only do so much, but wasnt it saved into the kiosk when we elected the gift card option?

It stings, from their machine glitching up, to their employee who fixed their kiosk assuming we wanted cash without anyone reaching out to us in the process. If I knew I'd be out $100 by default I wouldn't have bothered using their kiosk.

Feeling ripped off

I was recently at the Constar machine inside the Fry's food store at 67th Ave and Bell Rd. I had previously separated, weighed and counted all my coins...because I had a lot, I ended up with $846.92!.

I was contemplating taking them to the bank for deposit. But I was told that I would have to write all my contact info on every roll before I rolled everything, and they wanted a 5% handling fee. So I run all my change thru the Coinstar and only ended up with $541.42. bottom line is that $306 dollars just vanished.

Coinstar told me today that they would have to send out an independent auditor to go over the machine. I'm not feeling good about any of this. Oh and even on the coin count that was on my voucher didn't add up.

it said it added up to $541.42...but the numbers actually add up to $551.41. What's up with that?

Angry Customer

I came to Publix with a three-years-worth bucket of coins hoping to empty them out. I had counted before I came and it came up to well over one-hundred dollars.

I dumped the coins into the coin converter machine and it came up to 84 dollars. A few family members of mine had gone to their bank with a jar three times smaller than my bucket and got well over one-hundred dollars.

The idea that Coinstar would take 10% itself is enough to make someone have a mental breakdown. I overall walked out with 74.00 and a bad temper.

Hello, I need assisitance please concerning one of your machines. On 11/12/2023 at approximately 9:20 am, I used the coinstar machine located at 1300 S.

Watson Rd in Buckeye, AZ. I had quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies. I chose to use it because I had already counted $20 in quarters at home and I had an almoste filled vase of them (along w/ nickels and dimes). Pennies were from a separate vase.

I started pouring my money in, but nothing was happening; nothing was being counted. I was at my halfway mark with the silver coins when the machine stopped and had an error. Customer service stated it was the second time that day it went down. I told her the machine hadn't counted anything yet and she said wait until she restarted it to see what it did.

When she restarted it, I poured my remaining coins, but was shocked when it only showed $46.84 as my total! It only counted the end pour. The representative standing (katrins) there told me that something was definitely wrong with the machine and I should call them (Coin star) immediately. I called and received incident #349602 at 10:28am.

I was told to wait 30 days.

I called this weekend and the first rep told me I was approved for the refund and to hold on. Of course I was disconnected. The second call was to a female that said I was approved at first and then disapproved and I asked why and she stated "because you were". I asked for a supervisor and was told first there isn't one and then when I persisted, was told she's on the line.

I asked for a number or email and after being denied I said I would handle it another way.

Bottom line, I know I should've had at least $80 dollars total (not including pennies). I had two vases in which I kept the money. The first was 10"H x 5.5"D. That held the silver coins, but was not filled to the top (just 3 quarters of the way).

The second vase was 9"x12" with pennies and was filled. You don't have where I can attach pictures.

How do I get the money I counted.

This may seem insignificant to those reps hwo handled my call, but it was hard earned money and your machine failed (miserably I might add).

I'm not a con-artist nor a liar. I'm an employed citizen making every dollar count and am not pleased when it's taken from me.

Can you help me please?

Reinette Brown
