Positive Feedback

Machines are convenient when working and reliably count change, offering an option for gift cards instead of cash.

Negative Feedback / Risk Areas

  • Frequent machine malfunctions that jam or miscount, leading to lost coins.
  • Invalid or fading vouchers that registers and stores cannot redeem.
  • High fees and perceived overcharging during exchanges.
  • Poor response to Coinstar customer complaints and delays or denials of refund.
  • Problems with crypto transactions and Coinme wallet verifications holding funds.

Key Takeaways for Future Customers

  • Consider banks or cash deposits instead of Coinstar to avoid fees and risk.
  • If using a kiosk, photograph the transaction and redeem vouchers the same day.
  • Expect long waits for customer service and pursue documented refund requests promptly.

Absolutely not... NEVER AGAIN PERIOD!!! biggest mistake EVER

Original review Feb 07, 2026

After purchasing crypto through their coinstar machine it proceeded to guide me to download their app, it asked for all my information- which I filled out including mysocial security # , my drivers liscence photos front/back and a selfie but their automatic verification has failed 20 times. Now they are holding my crypto hostage.

What a joke, and a nightmare! Never again will I use their service, also they already deducted their cut from my money, a large fee, yet arent releasing what I payed for.

Should be illegal to take our money and charge us for the act

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My wife used a Coinstar machine to change coins in Sainsbury's. They charged £3 and printed a coupon for £19.22.

However, when my wife gave me the coupon and asked me to use it, we found that it must be used the same day.

Else now, it seems we have been charged £3 in order to take and keep our money. I feel Sainsbury's should kick these guys out as it's damaging to their reputation also.

EXCESSIVE FEES

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Dec 31, 2025

Only use if you are willing to pay the fee.

Original review Dec 16, 2025

If you have a piggy bank full of coins. They give you two options.

Have a cashier count all the money with rollers. (Which they will not do). Or, go to a CoinStar that automatically counts the change for you (For a fee) So that you can have bills. (For an additional fee).

And, by the time that time the DMCA will have all your money. (For a fee).

Pros:
  • Way to deposit coins
Cons:
  • Unwanted attention
  • Excessively high fees
  • Carrying a lot of coins creates unnecessary

Preferred solution: A way to deposit coins hassle, headache, and fee free.

Coinstar machine robbed my son

So my son wanted to cash in his hard-earned savings to dollars, approx. 140 dollars.

Roughly, the machine took almost all of the coins and stopped, froze up. I contacted the store manager; he came, opened it up, messed around with it for a minute, and then said there's nothing he can do but get my phone number and call a technician for the machine.

There was no guarantee that I would get my money back or when. This isn't right; there has to be something I can do about this.

E gift cards

I can no longer find Amazon e cards in Hayesville and Murphy NC.

All of the ecard offerings are restaurants that are not available in these markets.

For years I selected Amazon, and can no longer select.

Why is this and can the Amazon selection be reinstated.

there has been no response from coinstar

Original review Dec 04, 2024

I took a minimum of 110 dollars, but probably 120 dollars, to turn into an Amazon gift card. The gift came out with 81.03 dollars!!!

I have been on the phone with customer service since Monday and still have not resolved this. I think there needs to be a class action suit against this company.

Outright CHEATED ME!

True story. I had saved change for about six months.

Within that time, I occasionally counted the quarters. I had only $20.00 dollars in quarters alone. However, when I sent the content of coins through the Coinstar machine, it only gave me credit for $4.00 in quarters. Outright Thieves.

They stole much of my money.

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. CROOKS!
