Verified Reviewer |Scam saying there a police officer wanting money for a warrant
My husband and I have been trying to call coinstar and every number does not either work or it hangs up. We lost 1600 dollars today and have been trying to get answers.
My husband was told if he didn't pay the police department 1600 he was going to jail over 2 warrants.
Unfortunately we understand after the fact how stupid that sounds. He just wants his money back but can't reach anyone.

Verified ReviewerLegalized theft
I cashed in $11.00 in change from my wallet and they charged $1.87 service fee. Why do banks not take change from customers anymore?
This is totally unfair, unacceptable and nothing short of legalized theft. $0.50 fee plus 12.5% of the total. Why is this allowed?
Another reason to not use cash for anything anymore. Never again, I hope their machines rust and wither away.

Verified Reviewer |Awful Customer Service
Was using a Coinstar kiosk that errored out. The message said contact a Safeway store manager which I did, but the manager did not know how to help resolve the issue.
The issue resolution was on the screen, but required a key and PIN which the store manager did not know where or what it was. Contacted the CoinStar customer service department...long wait time on hold, only to be immediately hung up on. Called back and waited again, eventually got an agent on the line. Explained the situation to them, but they couldn't understand the issue.
I explained several times and politely answered her questions. She didn't know what to do, so she just hung up on me. Not sure how Coinstar is going to stay in business if this is how they deal with issues.
Just wanted to leave my information so once they serviced the machine and discovered the discrepancy, then I could get my $ back. That is apparently too complicated for this company.
- System works most of the time
- No one understands how the system works
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified ReviewerLost money no response
I called Coinstar with getting recording only. No response but by automated on email only. And no help from Walmart employees.
Coinstar stole Money
I precounted 250$ worth of change before submitting to their machine. After counting the funds that they showed were exactly 160$ for gift cards.
Called them immediately from the store and was told I needed to wait 3 weeks for audit team.
After 3 weeks I called in and was told there was no status and that I was going to have to just wait longer...they were unable to give me an estimate of how much longer.
Customer service isnt service if they are unable to do any service...what a *** company. At this point I'll just have to write off the 90$ loss.
Preferred solution: 90$

Verified Reviewer |Lost money
At 9:39 am at Walmart customer service in Abingdon, VA today, I needed gas money so I brought at least 20.00 in a small jar and put in the coinstar. It promptly loaded my change then spit out a penny from the change dispenser at the bottom then displayed that it wasn't working.
Now I am stuck and can't get home!
Person at customer service desk said I had to contact Coinstar. So I am now going to have to sleep in the parking lot until a family member in another state can pick me up tomorrow.

Verified ReviewerMachine Malfunction/Loss of Coin Value
The Coinstar at my local Kroger jammed up three times. The last time, there were not many coins in the machine, leading me to believe that the machine has more problems than frequent jams from too many coins.
It also sounded like there were coins in the machine when it started up the first time.
Upon the second malfunction, my e-card selection (amazon gift card) was converted to cash value. I lost $7.09 in that conversion.
When it jammed the last time, I left about $3.00 in the machine - I didn't want to bother the store associates again and it was starting not to be worth my time.
I have used Coinstar in the past - this is my first time with problems. I have pictures if you want to see.
I am seeking some kind of refund, and if nothing else, wanted to let you know that machine needs some maintenance.

My voucher says it's invalid
Voucher is invalid after cashing in change, machine took money and not able to get cash back. When turning in voucher was informed it's not valid
Preferred solution: Full refund
Coinstar stole our money, from a little girl emptying her piggybank.
We took my young daughter's coins in to coinstar. We poured themn into the machine as directed.
It printed out a voucher, which we are supposed to take to the cashier in the store, which we did. Every cashier that scanned the code said the code was coming up as invalid. We called the customer service number on the voucher, no one answered from coinstar, the call rang and rang and then dropped. Hours later, we we called the number again repeatedly.
We were put on automated hold each time for prolonged period of time.
So, coinstar just stole money from a young girl, no recourse whatsoever for them. This kiosk thing is a ripoff, just a con.
User's recommendation: Stay away from these ripoff machines

Verified Reviewer |Robbing people
So I use coin star at leaste once every two weeks. I work in an establishment that I get a lot of change from and when I'm low on cash in between paychecks I'll cash in my change.
For the first time I decided to hand count it before going into my Walmart to use the coin star and I had 19.53 all together so imagine my surprise when coin star said I only had 14.73 and they of course need their $2 fee for cashing in change so my total given to me was $12.73. But in all reality they took more than the $2 they claim is the fee.
They took an additional $4.80 from me without putting it on my receipt and it really makes wonder how much they have actually robbed me each time I used them! Kinda *** if you ask me
- Can cash in change quickly
- Machines always down
- Take more then what they claim
Preferred solution: Full refund
